Combination therapy is key for a successful and comfortable treatment

Before a shock wave treatment, using a high-power laser can help patients better tolerate the discomfort caused by ESWT and deliver more energy, thus obtaining better results.

Guided DolorClast® Therapy gets your patients going!

What does the study show?

ESWT and 905nm High Power Laser are both extra effective treatment modalities. However, their combination leads to synergistic effects and might be even superior to either treatment separately.

A recent study by Prof. Dr. med. Christoph Schmitz from LMU, University of Münich, Germany, showed that creating an analgesic effect with a 905nm High Power Laser pre-treatment allows increasing the effectiveness of extracorporeal shock wave therapy. The study found that thanks to this combination, it is possible to deliver up to 50% more energy just 5 minutes after the laser pre-treatment and up to 100% when waiting one hour in between!

How can it drastically improve healthcare providers' day-to-day practice?

In an article for the Sportärtztezeitung, Guided DolorClast® Therapy expert Thomas Maier writes:

"In daily practice, this GDT treatment protocol can significantly reduce the previous limitation of EFD* with an ESWT. It is now possible, [...] to treat with intensities of up to 3.1 bar and 20 Hz, which was previously unthinkable. [...] [This new approach] initially, required an adaptation to the daily routine of the practice. However, once settled, we really quickly started to see better treatment results."

Use of this effective combination on a patient with supination trauma

Thomas Maier himself has written for us a case study in which he shows the effectiveness of the combination on one of his patients suffering from supination trauma.
