Guided DolorClast Therapy in winter sports - testimonials from Swiss bobsledders

Field reports from the treatment of Swiss winter sports athletes by Felix Zimmermann (MAS Sportsphysiotherapy). He is a member of the EMS expert group that has made a major contribution to the development of Guided DolorClast Therapy.

Hamstring injury

The bobsleigh pilot Melanie Hasler had suffered a hamstring injury and has since been undergoing treatment with Felix Zimmermann, sports physiotherapist and chief physio of ALTIUS Swiss Sportmed Center AG as well as of Swiss Sliding, the Swiss professional association of the sports of bobsleigh, luge, skeleton and horn sledge.

The athlete was treated with radial shock wave therapy (rSWT) almost daily during the week. The 15 mm head was used to treat the 2.5 cm long muscular lesion in the distal area of the biceps femoris muscle. Furthermore, the whole fascia of the muscle was also treated with rSWT using the 36mm applicator.

After only 3 days after the injury, active therapy (stabilisation exercises, strength training and running school) could be started again parallel to rSWT.

At the time of the photo shoot, the athlete is about to start the last World Cup race and European Bobsleigh Championships in St. Moritz (CH). Of course, she is looking forward to the season's highlight in 2022 in China, which is absolutely realistic thanks to the adequate progressive and very goal-oriented therapy using rSWT.

Gastrocnemius Tear

Bobsleigh pilot Simon Friedli and pusher Sandro Michel of the Swiss national team, unfortunately, suffered a gastrocnemius tear shortly before an important international winter sports competition. They were treated daily at the ALTIUS Swiss Sportmed Center AG with the DolorClast® High Power Laser and the DolorClast® Radial Shock Wave.

In addition to the passive therapy, the athletes performed daily active training according to the GDT protocol. This included various exercises in the area of stabilisation as well as strength and running training. Specifically, foot stabilisation exercises, calf raises, and squats to final extension of the ankle joints were used, as well as running a school with elastic band and jumps.

At the time of writing this case study, the results look very good, so nothing stood in the way of the big goal of a competition start.
