Two methods, eccentric loading and shock wave therapy, that both have been proven effective in patients with midsubstance Achilles tendinopathy, are now compared via a controlled trial in patients with insertional Achilles tendinopathy.

Conclusions: Eccentric loading only, as applied in the study, showed inferior results to shock wave therapy in patients with chronic recalcitrant tendinopathy of the insertion of the Achilles tendon at four months of follow-up.
